The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the dynamics of topics in urban green space

Abstract. Urban residents’ daily lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in various aspects such as social, leisure, and physical activities. Fortunately, urban green spaces (UGSs) become a main outdoor destination, due to policies encouraging people visit UGS keeping them open. This study aimed comprehensively investigate impact of on topics discussed social media visitors over space time. Data was collected from geo-referenced Tweets across London spring 2019, 2020, 2021. Structural Topic Modelling (STM) used identify describe dynamics topic proportions. The inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation method explore spatial distributions all topics. identified seven types periods, with Lockdown exercise Social friends showing decreasing trend proportions, indicating that visitors' activities were restricted. not only identifies during period but also reflects people’s attitudes perceptions towards restriction measures, which can provide guidance for future policies, especially crises.
